About the Author

January Gordon Ornellas is a comedy writer whose stories include everything from colonoscopies to triathlons (she didn’t receive a medal for either).

Her article, “Rookie’s Triathlon Lessons,” appeared in the LA Times (June 2019). Her stories, “Gobble, Gobble” and “Almost Taken,” were published in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Laughter is the Best Medicine (April 2020). In April 2021, she was awarded “Humor Writer of the Month” by the Erma Bombeck Writers’ Organization. January’s story, “Play Nice,” was a 2022 EBWW Competition Runner-Up in the Global Humor Category. Most recently, her stories “Pelotaur,” “The Maximalist,” “Perfectly Respectable Chompers,” and “Thelma and Louise and Louise” were all featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Too Funny (April 2022)

January is currently writing a novel, “Diab🥎lical,” a dark comedy about the seedy underbelly of girls’ softball. She is also completing a collection of humorous essays titled, “My Above Average Colon and Other Midlife Adventures.”

When she isn’t writing, January enjoys running, traveling, and spending time with her husband, two adult daughters, granddaughter, and her 107-year-old dog, who barely looks a day over 98.
